The thoughtful observer

pondering pupown pacekeen observer

Dog is a thoughtful little observer! Moving at a calm pace all its own, and loving to quietly watch the world go by. Dog is quiet, yet brimming with curiosity.

Personality traits

The INTP dog is a thoughtful observer made of Introversion (I), Intuition (N), Thinking (T) and Perceiving (P). Faced with something new it does not dive in; it watches for a long while, looks it over from several angles, and only then approaches. Even when called, it tends to take a beat to understand before moving. Its emotions are not showy, yet its eyes light up at anything curious, and it treasures time to investigate alone.

Walks & play

On walks it lingers over a single blade of grass or a storm drain, digging into the source of a smell or sound. The pace is slow, yet it looks as though it is stacking up each observation one by one. It would sooner roll and inspect a new object alone than play with other dogs, and it sinks deeply into mind-engaging play such as puzzle toys or treat hunts. Once absorbed, it may easily miss being called.

Living together

It truly needs a space and time of its own, so set up a corner where it can rest undisturbed. Forcing hugs or urging it to play on and on may push it away instead. Training works better when it understands the principle than through drilling, so break things into small steps and show them slowly. It can drift into thought and miss a cue on walks, so practicing name recall and an attention signal at ordinary moments helps.

Best buddies

The idea-rich ENTP dog turns what the INTP observes into action, an entertaining play partner. The INTJ dog, who moves calmly toward its goals, can share a room with it with each absorbed in its own thing, which is comfortable, and the hands-on ISTP dog works through its curiosities as an exploring companion. A very loud, overly clingy friend can exhaust the INTP.
