The clever little trickster

Dog is a clever little trickster! Even a closed door becomes a puzzle to crack, and there's always a new prank in the works. Dog is the whiz who surprises us every day.

Personality traits

The ENTP dog is a trickster built from Extraversion (E), Intuition (N), Thinking (T) and Perceiving (P). It works out by playing what makes a treat appear or a door swing open, then puts that knowledge to use at once. It has to test every rule at least once, so something you said no to may quietly be tried again. It is curiosity rather than spite, and a funny reaction from you only encourages the mischief.

Walks & play

Even on a walk it checks the places where something might be hiding, such as the foot of a wall or an unfamiliar alley, before the plain path. When the leash goes slack it sneaks a turn, and it will start a playful chase with any passing dog. In play it prefers hide-and-seek, treasure hunts and tag with made-up rules over simple fetch repetition, and the same toy only holds its interest when the way it is thrown keeps changing.

Living together

Being clever, it gets bored fast, and when bored it goes shopping for entertainment in the trash can or your shoes. Add brain work once or twice a day, such as a sniffing mat, a food puzzle or teaching a simple trick. Training suits adding one new cue at a time better than repeating a fixed routine. Giving in to demands only breeds more of them, so avoid consistently rewarding the barking or pawing that has won it treats before.

Best buddies

The INFJ dog quietly tolerates the ENTP’s pranks yet signals when a line is crossed, making a good counterweight. The hands-on ISTP dog enjoys challenge games like fishing a treat out of a toy, and the high-energy ENFP dog matches it in endless chases. A friend who values fixed routines, by contrast, does not get the jokes, and both can end up worn out.
