The guardian of house rules

Dog is a no-nonsense rule keeper! Sticking to the daily routine like clockwork, and getting every task done just right. Dog keeps order in our home, steady and sure.

Personality traits

The ESTJ dog is a principled guardian formed from Extraversion (E), Sensing (S), Thinking (T) and Judging (J). It likes mealtimes, walks and bedtime to be fixed, and when the schedule slips it whines or paces to let you know. It judges by what it can see and knows, so it checks unfamiliar visitors and new objects carefully first. It feels responsible for the order of the home and is dependable for it.

Walks & play

It likes to walk the same course in the same order, and if the path is blocked or a detour is needed it may stop and make its objection known. Its stride is steady and strong, and it is efficient, finishing toileting and territory checks at set points. It prefers play with clear rules, so structured games like fetch or sit-and-wait before the throw suit it well. If another dog breaks the order it may bark firmly to draw a line.

Living together

Consistency is the best gift. Keep meals and walks to a schedule as far as you can, and when the whole family uses the same rules, problem behavior drops noticeably. It picks up training faster the more clearly you show the goal and the order of steps, and a reward right after it succeeds helps. Changing rules or frequently rearranging furniture can make it edgy. Teaching it to sit at a set spot when guests come reduces barking and eases everyone.

Best buddies

The ISTJ dog, another routine lover, has a similar daily rhythm and sense of rules, so the two never cross each other’s lines. The driven ENTJ dog shares its goal focus and makes a good walking partner, and the devoted ISFJ dog respects the ESTJ’s principles and follows quietly along. A free-wheeling friend who acts on impulse breaks the rhythm and can wear it out, so start with short meetings.
